Celebrating the Ministry of Michael Shoemaker

St. Stephen's Cathedral, 221 N. Front St., Harrisburg, will host a Day of Celebration for the Music Ministry of Michael Shoemaker, who has provided 46 years of service to the cathedral as organist-choirmaster.

The day of tribute will take place Sunday, August 26, beginning with Eucharist at 10:45 a.m. and continuing with Choral Evensong at 4 p.m.  Receptions will follow both services.

All former choristers are invited to participate at the service finales.

Safe Church Training for All Diocesan Clergy

Safeguarding God's Children and Safeguarding God's People training will be held October 6, 2012. This training is mandated for all active clergy, not only to experience the information in the training resources, but also to participate in small group discussions. The higher purpose is for clergy to share expertise and wisdom as to the best ways to live out diocesan policy through leadership and programs. The training design in October will help all clergy to do this, learning from one another about safe practices in all congregational life. Clergy – please click here to register.

To date, 60 clergy and diocesan staff have registered.
Cutoff date for registration is September 24.

Who is to attend: Representation is to include all clergy canonically resident or serving parishes in the convocation and three lay delegates from each parish, with at least one lay delegate from each parish who has served as a delegate at the last diocesan convention. The nature of parish representation in the canons points out an expectation that delegates to diocesan convention are chosen not only to represent the parish at the time of convention itself, but that delegates also have a responsibility for helping to carry out decisions made by convention. The thought is that as "partners in Christ" we need to have individuals who both formulate decisions (from convention) as well as help implement them in local regions.
