Congregational Development Project Grants Still Available

For almost 15 years, The Project Grant Committee has awarded grants to many parishes to use for a variety of projects and new initiatives to promote congregational development. Some of those include training for ESL at Trinity, Chambersburg, a lunch and learn program at St. Mary’s, Waynesboro, equipment for movie nights at Trinity, Renovo and audio equipment for hearing impaired and home bound at Trinity, Williamsport. St. John’s, Marietta started an intergenerational night and wanted to include movie nights as part of this program. A Project Grant helped them to purchase the equipment needed to accomplish these goals.

The committee meets three times each year to review and award grants that meet the specified guideline. We continue to be inspired by the projects that people have developed and the enthusiasm supporting these projects on the parish level. We have shared these ideas with other parishes in the hope that they too will look ways to implement congregational development efforts.

The deadline for application is October 1, 2012. More information and the online submission form may be found on the diocesan website. We look forward to hearing from you.

Don't Miss Out on Diocesan News!

Email is a great way to communicate the "good news" to a large number of parishioners throughout the diocese. In order for the members of every parish to keep up with the latest news from the diocese, we are soliciting email addresses from those people who want to keep up with the latest diocesan news, stories and information.

A bulletin insert is available for your use. Please include it in your August and September church bulletins (either by copying and inserting or by copying and pasting into the bulletin).

Parishioners who subscribe will receive the Diocesan Digest and the Bishop's Message. Email addresses will only be used by the diocese to distribute diocesan news.

Got Spirits?

October is coming - does your church have a ghost story, spooky tale or a haunting? Send your story to Linda Arguedas - we will publish it in the October News from the Pews (if you dare) ...

Save the Dates

"Hymns of Prayer" is the theme.  Contact Barbara House.

Fall Convocation Assembly Meetings
Fall Convocation Assembly Meetings will be held on the following dates:

November 7 - Southern (St. Mary's, Waynesboro)

November 8 - Lancaster (St. Thomas, Lancaster)

November 13 - Altoona (Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Hawk Run)

November 15 - Harrisburg (Mt. Calvary, Camp Hill)
November 28 - Northern Tier (St. Paul's, Wellsboro)
November 29 - West Branch (Church of Our Savior, Montoursville)
December 4 - Susquehanna (Christ Church, Berwick)

Who is to attend: Representation is to include all clergy canonically resident or serving parishes in the convocation and three lay delegates from each parish, with at least one lay delegate from each parish who has served as a delegate at the last diocesan convention. The nature of parish representation in the canons points out an expectation that delegates to diocesan convention are chosen not only to represent the parish at the time of convention itself, but that delegates also have a responsibility for helping to carry out decisions made by convention. The thought is that as "partners in Christ" we need to have individuals who both formulate decisions (from convention) as well as help implement them in local regions.
